Miris y Maiz: From Oaxaca to Colombo - Paradise x Hungry Taco

On 22 June, Sera presents: Miris y Maiz: From Oaxaca to Colombo —a one-day taquería takeover where the fire of Sri Lankan cooking meets the soul of Mexican street food. We’re bringing together two of London’s most exciting kitchens: Paradise, known for its bold, modern take on Sri Lankan cuisine, and Hungry Taco, a family-run gem serving some of the city’s most authentic Mexican tacos.

Sri Lanka and Mexico might be on opposite sides of the world—but they speak the same food language: citrus, heat, street food, and soul. This event takes the best of both. It’s about flavour without borders, traditions reimagined, and the beauty of two cultures that know how to bring the heat.

Expect 60-minute seatings, and dishes that reflect the roots of both kitchens: hand-pressed tortillas, slow-cooked meats, sambols and pickles layered with intensity. Drinks will flow, music will lift the room, and the atmosphere will lean more street-side than sit-down.

Paradise Founder Dom Fernando, was born in London to Sri Lankan parents and raised on the deep, rich flavours of home cooking. Dom opened Paradise in Soho as a love letter to Sri Lanka—fusing heritage recipes with modern technique and a bold, minimalist approach. It quickly became one of London’s most celebrated restaurants, known for rethinking Sri Lankan food with punch and precision.

Hungry Taco is the creation of Ruth and Csabi, a husband-and-wife duo who’ve made it their mission to share the true taste of Mexico with London. Ruth, originally from Oaxaca, brings deep family roots and traditional techniques passed down through generations. Together, they craft tacos the proper way—using hand-sourced spices, imported ingredients, and tortillas made through the ancient nixtamalization process, via MasaFina. What started as a local passion project in North London is now one of the city’s best-kept secrets.

This event is in partnership with OpenTable, and their summer campaign celebrating the West End—spotlighting everything from award-winning hotspots to local legends and hidden gems.
