'If I had a...Toddy Shop' at Bibi Restaurant
For one-day-only we flip GQ Magazine’s 2022 Restaurant of the year, BiBi, into a South Indian fisherman’s establishment, referred to as a ‘Toddy Shop’.
Join us Sunday, September 29th, for “If I Had a… Toddy Shop,” where Chet Sharma and the team will take you on a culinary journey inspired by the vibrant toddy shops of South India.
Toddy shops began as simple coastal establishments where fishermen gathered to relax after a day at sea, enjoying toddy—a traditional palm sap drink—and hearty, home-cooked meals. Over time, these spots evolved into lively community hubs where food, drink, and stories were shared, making them vital cultural institutions.
BiBi and Chet’s traditional tasting menu, which is known as one of the best in London, embraces the full variety and different cuisines from around India. Chet’s menu changes with each season, led by the spices and herbs that make his dishes unique.
Chet’s path to opening Bibi is quite remarkable. While working towards a PhD in physics from the University of Oxford, he worked part time at a number of London’s leading Michelin-starred restaurants, including Benares and Locanda Locatelli.
After discovering his passion and love of restaurants, he went on to work at two Michelin-starred Mugaritz, Simon Rogan’s Umbel Restaurant Group, two-starred Mark Birchall’s Moor Hall, and also, the recently crowned three-starred,The Ledbury. Chet eventually opened BiBi in September 2021, which now ranks among London’s finest restaurants.
We’ll be serving two menus on the day: a meat-focused option and a pescatarian menu, reflecting the coastal roots of toddy shops.
Due to the intricacy of the offering, we are unable to cater to dietary restrictions on the day.
