If I had a...Suya Spot at Chishuru

What if one of the most exciting chefs in London brought her dream ‘Suya Spot’ to life — just for one night?

If you’ve never heard of Suya, you’re not alone. But by the end of the night, you’ll wonder how you ever lived without it.

On June 3rd, Sera teams up with Adejoké (Joké) Bakare, the Michelin-starred chef behind the acclaimed West African restaurant Chishuru, for the next edition of our “If I had a…” series - where chefs reimagine their dream concept. For one night only, Chishuru transforms into a fiery Suya Spot — a tribute to the street-side grill joints found across Nigeria, where meat is marinated in ground spices, grilled over open flames, and served in joyful, communal settings.

What can you expect? Think - thinly sliced, charred skewers of bavette and hogget - smoky, and richly spiced with yaji. Mud baked Poussin, and Agege Buns (Nigerian Milk Buns), filled with savoury dambun kifi (Pollock Floss), and much more. Joké is building a whole menu around these flavours — reimagining Suya with the precision and personality that made Chishuru one of London’s most talked-about restaurants.

Joké’s rise has been meteoric. In 2024 alone, she was awarded ‘Chef of the Year’ at the National Restaurant Awards, named ‘Woman of the Year’ by Code Hospitality, and listed by the Financial Times as one of the 25 most influential women of the year. This event is a rare chance to see her explore her culinary roots in a totally new way — playful, nostalgic, and full of fire.

And like any good meal at Chishuru, expect booze, and plenty of it.
Expect a night that captures the spirit of the Suya spots Joké grew up eating at. This is Joké’s dream Suya Spot - and you’re invited.

Due to the unique nature of this event, we are unable to accommodate dietary restrictions. Tickets are non-refundable.

Like all Sera events, you may be seated with other friendly Sera members on the night!
